Love in Mid-Air....a review

If you're contemplating an affair, don't read this book....or maybe read it. I'm not sure if it will empower you to act on your impulse or if it will dissuade you from moving forward with your tryst. Either way, Love in Mid-Air by Kim Wright is simply a captivating read. It definitely feel more like a diary than a novel in some instances.

The main character, Elyse, takes us through her journey from a young woman intrigued by the idea of marriage, to a mother and wife struggling to hold on to her identity, to the daring and brazen mistress who guiltlessly tours the country with her lover, one city at a time. Wright provides the reader with an intimate portrait of the guts of Elyse's affair, marriage and friendships. Although some of the dialog made me blush (literally!), every word contributed to the complexity of the plot, which was often unexpected, sometimes painful and always alluring.

I've never met Wright but, based on this novel, I am guessing she's not shy and I would love to sit down for coffee and a chat. I imagine we'd talk about female friendships and how difficult it can be to truly connect with women...as well as the importance of a true, solid friend. I would probably lean in closer to her and whisper as I asked about the writing process of this book. Her writing is brave, raw and honest. I love it.

Grab this book and read it. It will devour you, as you devour it.
